Academic Support & Retention Coordinator
Education and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing a comparable level of expertise.
- Reasonable experience (1-3 years) working in higher education within a student retention or support capacity. Familiarity with collegiate academic and administrative procedures (e.g. admissions, registration, financial aid, academic advising, orientation, etc.).
- Reasonable experience (1-3 years) supervising employees.
Demonstrates a Working proficiency level in:
- The ability to provide students with a welcoming environment and to help familiarize them with school facilities, policies, services, and expectations for college success and retention.
- Creating, implementing, and assessing programs or course-based interventions that contribute to students’ academic success.
- Analytical and research skills; specifically analyzing college student retention research and trends and/or assessing programmatic or course-based approaches to student academic success, preferred.
- The knowledge of and ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
Demonstrated an Extensive proficiency level in:
- Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Desirable Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in higher education, student development, student affairs, or a related field is highly desired.
- Reasonable (1 – 3 years) experience with student retention approaches, principles, and theories that strengthen student engagement.
Demonstrates a Working proficiency level in:
- Knowledge of theories and models that facilitate effective teaching and learning, especially for increasingly diverse student groups.
- Awareness and insight into the organization's vision, structure, culture, philosophy, operating principles, values, and code of ethics; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to diverse situations.
