The University of Iowa Health Care department of Safety and Security is seeking a Technical Security Specialist to provide support for access control program and other security related programs within UI Healthcare. This position must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with internal and external constituents while facilitating positive relationships.

A successful candidate must be highly organized, exercise independent judgement, and work well within a team first environment.  This person is required to manage multiple priorities and have strong problem-solving skills.

Assigned Duties:

·       Manage the technical security access control program for main campus.

·       Assist in handling all access control tasks.

·       Administer, configure, and maintain access control systems such as key card readers and other security systems.

·       Serves as a contact for Safety and Security, responds to inquiries, maintains records for key and door access.

·       Proficiently keep track of inventory to include capitalized equipment and computers.

·       Assist in the management of the TMA program and provide support to technical security staff.

·       Collaborate with other UI campus’s on access control tasks to ensure consistency across all UI campus’s.

·       Work with the Senior Compliance Specialist closely on various projects within UI Healthcare.

·       Act as a commissioning agent of all cameras, doors, security items, and hardware.

·       Assist with a variety of technical security related project and other tasks.

·       Assists in report pulling and analyses to pass down to senior leaders.

·       Assist with assuring compliance with various policies and procedures (e.g., Safety and Purchasing) across all UI Healthcare Campus’s.

·       Assist with planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing short and long-range goals for projects.

·       Research information to facilitate communication process.

·       Review, resolve, and respond to requests for information, data, services, complaints, etc.

·       May develop and coordinate internal/external communication. 

·       Assist financial analyst with pulling of reports and interpreting data.

·       Supervise Access Control Clerk II.

    Required Qualifications:

    ·       A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

    ·       1 – 3 years of related administrative experience in an office setting is required. 

    ·       1-3 years of access control experience required.

    ·       Experience planning and coordinating tasks with a high level of independence is required. 

    ·       Experience working successfully in a team environment is required. 

    ·       Excellent customer service, public contact, and written/verbal communication skills is required.

    ·       Ability to handle multiple tasks, proactively establish priorities, and meet deadlines is required. 

    ·       Extensive experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint) is required. 

    Desirable Qualifications:

    ·       Experience using University of Iowa Access Control systems is desirable.

    ·       Experience with Hospital Safety and Security policies and procedures.

    ·       Knowledge of University of Iowa and University of Iowa Health Care policies and procedures is desirable.
