The University of Iowa Health Care department of Safety and Security is seeking an Access Control Supervisor (PHF3) to provide programmatic leadership, regulatory compliance oversight, and operational accountability for access control services across UI Health Care facilities and offsite locations. This position is responsible for supervising Access Control operations, conducting inspections and audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal audit requirements, and serving as the subjectmatter expert for access control systems, policies, and monitoring activities. The role reports to the Manager of Operation and Offsite Liaison and collaborates closely with operational leadership to maintain secure, compliant, and wellmanaged access control programs throughout the organization.

 

Position Responsibilities

Access Control Operations

·         Provide direct oversight of daily Access Control operations including:

o   Badge access approvals

o   Key watcher programming

o   Key control compliance

o   Access audits

o   System troubleshooting

·         Ensure Access Control staff follow departmental policies, procedures, and audit expectations.

·         Serve as the primary technical and operational resource for access control systems.

 

Regulatory Compliance

·         Conduct inspections, audits, and compliance reviews related to access control and security systems.

·         Maintain documentation supporting Internal Audit, Life Safety, key control, and badge access requirements.

·         Identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.

·         Communicate significant security or compliance issues to leadership and appropriate authorities.

 

Investigative & Reporting Functions

·         Collect, analyze, and monitor access control and security data.

·         Conduct access audits and prepare reports outlining findings, trends, and corrective actions.

·         Utilize monitoring data to support departmental decisionmaking and compliance readiness.

 

Training

·         Provide training to Access Control staff on:

o   Access control systems

o   Key control procedures

o   Audit and documentation requirements

·         Participate in safety, security, and compliance committees as assigned.

 

Offsite Clinics

·         Support access control operations at offsite clinics and properties.

·         Conduct security risk assessments at offsite locations.

·         Coordinate badge access, key control, and system updates for offsite facilities.

 

Additional Responsibilities

·         Provide direct supervision of Access Control staff.

·         Deliver daily oversight, coaching, and performance documentation.

·         Ensure staff compliance with departmental policies and regulatory expectations.

·         Support onboarding and training of new Access Control personnel.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

·         A bachelor’s degree in security management, occupational safety, criminal justice, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.

·         Demonstrated experience with access control systems, key control, or security operations is required.

·         Experience supervising staff or providing operational leadership is required.

·         Experience of working in a health care environment.

·         Knowledge of regulatory compliance and audit processes is required.

·         Strong customer service, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills are required.

·         Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines is required.

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.

Desired Qualifications

·         Experience supporting internal or external audits.

·         Familiarity with University of Iowa or UI Health Care access control systems.

·         Experience supporting offsite or multifacility operations.

·         Knowledge of UI and UI Health Care policies and procedures.
