The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (Iowa JPEC) and the Financial Operations team in the Tippie College of Business seeks a full-time Accountant. This position is responsible for providing finance and accounting support associated with all Iowa JPEC programs and some dean’s office accounts, requiring a high degree of discretion and independent judgment. The responsibilities include but are not limited to: oversight of the daily financial operations, deposit reconciliation, financial reporting and reimbursements; provides expert consultation to multiple program directors.

 

Job Duties and Tasks

  • Assistance in preparation of annual, mid-year and final budgets for several programs within JPEC
  • Oversee processing of all financial transactions
  • Complete basic, and some complex recurring reconciliations and reporting.  Including tracking award payments and transactions from monthly statement of accounts following pre-established processes.
  • Prepare specialized monthly budget reports for directors/budget owners and update various financial reports as requested using advanced knowledge of Access Database.
  • Manage all financial transactions; transactions include, but are not limited to, procurement expenses, travel, donations, and awards payments.
  • Use basic to moderate knowledge of funding structures to recommend use in budgets, to include general education/organized activities, special appropriations and donor funds.
  • Basic knowledge of GAAP accounting standards. May contribute to implementation of policies and procedures related to accounting and reporting standards.
  • Maintain records documentation of accounting transactions.
  • Manage the Cashnet credit card reconciliation.
  • Process payments for business plan and pitch competitions, conference awards, etc. through MAUI, Payroll or Accounts Payable systems.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Typically 1-3 years related accounting or administrative experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office applications: Excel, Word and Access Database.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with a varied population.
  • Strong ability to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve with limited guidance.
  • Team player, able to work effectively with others required.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial processes & procedures (General ledger, grant accounting) at the University of Iowa.
  • 5 or more years accounting experience/ grant accounting.
  • Expert proficiency with Access Database advanced features.
