 The Department of Communication Studies at the University of Iowa invites applications for an Administrative Services Coordinator. We seek a highly organized, adaptable, and service-oriented professional to serve as a primary point of contact while supporting the day-to-day administrative and academic operations of the department. This role is essential to ensuring the effective functioning of departmental activities in support of faculty, students, staff, and the broader university community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive administrative and academic support to the department, exercising a high level of discretion, initiative, and independent judgment.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for teaching assistants in Rhetoric courses, including coordinating with partner departments, preparing appointment materials, and responding to inquiries.
  • Support course administration activities, including scheduling final examinations, collecting and maintaining course syllabi, and managing teaching evaluation processes.
  • Oversee building access and key management to ensure security and operational efficiency.
  • Administer scholarship processes and coordinate related events, including organizing the annual scholarship reception.
  • Plan and execute Lambda Pi Eta initiation ceremonies and receptions, and manage National Communication Association membership processes.
  • Contribute to departmental strategic initiatives and support special projects aligned with departmental goals and priorities.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location

 

Education requirement   
 

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.   

Required Qualifications

  • 6 months to a year administrative work experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as demonstrated at a working proficiency level.
  • Experience with a variety of desktop tools, including MS Office Suite and apps. Willingness and ability to learn new software platforms as needed. 
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. 
     


 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Ability to work as part of a team. 
  • Basic experience with website maintenance, newsletter development, and social media management. 
  • Demonstrates working ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation. 
  • Basic knowledge of University policies, procedures, and systems.
