American Sign Language Interpreter
Education Required
- Bachelor’s degree in ASL Interpretation, or a Liberal Arts discipline in hand by start date; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications
- Must hold a permanent License by the Iowa Department of Public Health as a Sign Language Interpreter/Transliterator.
- Ability to provide competent signed interpreting services in a variety of operational contexts.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft computer software applications and have the ability to adapt to technology systems established on campus.
Highly Desirable Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years professional experience as a certified interpreter working in a variety of settings such as a post-secondary educational environment, employee appointments, events, and other activities.
- Holds the National Interpreter Certification (NIC), Certification of Interpretation (CI) or Certification of Transliteration (CT) offered by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), or BEI Advanced/Master, or received an EIPA 4.5 or above and is willing to obtain RID certification within the first 5 years of employment.
- Minimum score of 3 on the ASLPI or willingness to obtain this ASLPI score within the first academic year.
Desirable Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience fostering or promoting a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment.
- Minimum of 1-year administrative experience in an academic environment.
