The Department of Anesthesia is seeking a Financial Analyst to perform a broad range of financial and cost accounting analysis. Ensuring the department’s financial health and operational efficiency. 

Hybrid within Iowa: Following an onsite training period, this position is eligible for a combination of on-campus and remote work. Remote work must be performed within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location

Position Responsibilities:

Financial Management

  • Drive financial planning by analyzing trends and uncovering opportunities to optimize resource allocation.
  • Perform variance analysis to deliver actionable insights for financial adjustments.

Financial Reporting

  • Execute cost analyses to pinpoint opportunities for operational efficiency and cost containment.
  • Evaluate variance reports and prepare detailed financial analyses to support departmental strategies.

Budgeting and Financial Oversight

  • Assist in budget development, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Partner with leadership to align budget planning with organizational growth strategies and initiatives.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Develop robust financial models and analyze service line performance to guide strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare detailed reports and projections that incorporate market trends and risk factors.

Financial Analysis and Planning

  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of service lines, linking performance metrics to strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with leadership to design financial planning models that enhance organizational adaptability.

Compliance with Policies and Operational Oversight

  • Ensure funds are managed to maximize organizational impact while maintaining strict compliance with policies.
  • Work closely with clinical and operational teams to integrate financial insights into strategic planning efforts.

Grant Accounting

  • Collaborate with program managers to ensure proper allocation and utilization of grant funds.
  • Conduct audits and reviews of grant-funded projects to ensure financial integrity and compliance.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Finance & Accounting, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One to three years of experience in finance with an emphasis in analytics and cost allocation.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to think critically.
  • Thorough knowledge of computer systems and the ability to effectively utilize software applications including spreadsheet development, database development and management, report writers, and presentation software.
  • Effective interpersonal relations skills promoting teamwork and collaborative alliances.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a large academic medical center.
  • Knowledge of University accounting policy, procedure, and systems.
  • Knowledge of accounting and budgeting tools including: Peoplesoft, StrataJazz, GL Reporter, and Iowa Electronic Financial Reports (EFR).
