Assistant Director - Events Services, IMU
Position Specific Summary
The IMU Event Services Department provides comprehensive event planning and execution services to student organizations, university departments, and external constituents. The department partners with clients to create impactful experiences through strategic planning, customer service, space management, and operational coordination.
The Assistant Director of IMU Event Services serves as the lead event planner and primary coordinator for complex events and programs hosted within the Iowa Memorial Union and other university-managed venues. This position plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates all aspects of event development and execution while providing leadership and support to professional staff and student employees.
Specific Tasks & Job Duties
Serve as lead planner for major university, departmental, student organization, and external events.
Coordinate event logistics, budgets, timelines, room configurations, and service requirements.
Supervises and mentor assigned staff and student employees.
Provide exceptional customer service and client consultation.
Collaborate with facilities, catering, audiovisual, custodial, and campus partners.
Assist with strategic initiatives, assessment efforts, and departmental projects.
Serve as Manager on Duty as assigned.
Provide leadership in event planning processes, customer service standards, and event execution practices.

Required Qualifications & Skills
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and supervisory experience.
Some (6 months – 1 year) administrative experience in event programming or event management; preferably within a collegiate setting.
Some (6 months – 1 year) administrative supervisory experience
A valid driver’s license is required, as well as an ability to meet and maintain University of Iowa Driving Policy.
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining a welcoming and respectful environment.
Experience with computer applications; preferably MSOffice.
Experience with event management computer programs and digital display system; specifically, Visix digital display, Event Management System (EMS) and Visio room diagram programs.
Some (6 months – 1 year) knowledge of custodial management including custodial equipment and practices.
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated experience working with bargaining unit employees
Some knowledge of university policies, procedures, and regulations
