Assistant Nurse Manager - Periodontics

Responsibilities:
Clinical Services and Patient Care:
· Supervision and coordination of clinical services for periodontal and implant procedures.
· Circulating and assisting in periodontal procedures.
· Monitoring patients undergoing surgical procedures with local anesthesia and moderate sedation.
· Acting as a liaison between patients and caregivers to ensure satisfaction.
· Providing skilled nursing care to patients in undergraduate, graduate, and faculty practices.
Education and Training:
· Working with care providers at various levels of training, including faculty, residents, and dental students.
· Providing supervision and education to support staff and students.
· Instructing and providing feedback on aseptic technique, IV placement, monitoring vital sings, and patient behavioral management.
Administrative and Operational:
· Case planning, coordination, and maintenance of instrumentation, supplies, and surgical equipment.
· Coordinating scheduling of patient procedures and managing clinic schedules.
· Updating leadership on clinical guidelines, policies, and procedures.
· Reviewing operation manuals, clinical guidelines, and procedures.
· Collecting and analyzing unit costs against unit volumes for resource allocation.
· Troubleshooting problems and arranging for the repair and maintenance of clinical equipment.
· Monitoring supply inventory and participating in trials of new equipment and supplies.
· Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
· Reallocating resources to meet clinical needs and productivity expectations.
· Audit department AxiUm notes/records to ensure clinical policy compliance.
Medication and Emergency Management:
· Preparing IV supplies, establishing IV access, and administering medications.
· Maintaining accurate records of medications administered and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
· Maintaining ACLS and BLS certifications and assisting with management of medical emergencies.
Staff Management and Leadership:
· Developing and predicting staffing needs.
· Supervising, interviewing, hiring, orientating, and completing formal performance reviews for Dental Assistants and Hygienists.
· Assisting faculty in evaluating dental students and residents.
· Leading departmental staff meetings and conducting in-service training.
· Facilitating ongoing education to ensure staff completion of mandatory competencies.
Research Coordination:
· Coordinating research patients’ schedules and requirements with the research team.
· Managing inventory and acquiring supplies for research projects.
· Assisting in developing budgetary needs for patient and research projects.
· Coordinating staffing, room assignments, data collection, and technical troubleshooting for research projects.
Salary: $72,695 to commensurate (Pay Grade: 5A)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
May require occasional overtime.
Work Location: On-Site
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or obtain within 3 months of hire.
- 1 year directly related clinical experience including:
- Experience establishing IV access.
- Experience monitoring surgical patients undergoing procedures utilizing local anesthesia, moderate and deep sedation.
- Experience monitoring patients during recovery until discharge.
- Proficiency in electronic health record charting and clinical scheduling software (preferably AxiUm).
- Experience establishing IV access.
- Supervisory experience including performance management.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge, understanding, and adherence to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Desirable:
- Clinical experience with dental implant surgeries and instrumentation.
- Experience scheduling clinical procedures including rooms, equipment, staff, and other resources.
- Experience promoting collaboration and engagement within a team.
