Education Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a science with emphasis on analytical chemistry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a similar type of laboratory.
Experience Required:

Experience (typically 2-4 years) performing laboratory testing in a regulated environment including:
  • Analytical chemistry (UV-Vis spectroscopy, FTIR, pH, moisture determination, titrations, etc.),
  • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) or Gas Chromatography (GC) with associated software packages used in pharmaceutical quality control or similar industry,
  • Laboratory testing including the ability to independently troubleshoot analytical method issues,
  • Documentation of analytical results in a regulated environment,
  • Standard Operating Procedures.

Effective communication (written and verbal) skills.

Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel and Outlook).

Demonstrated increased responsibility operating laboratory equipment including the ability to independently troubleshoot laboratory equipment and technical systems problems.

Proven ability to work independently with a high level of discretion.

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience (typically 1-2 years) performing:
  • Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LCMS) with associated software packages used in pharmaceutical quality control or similar industry.
Highly Desirable:

Experience and/or knowledge of:
  • Current Good Manufacturing (cGMP) or similar regulations.
  • University of Iowa Environmental Health and Safety chemical inventory system.
  • United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and European Pharmacopeia (EP) training.
