Associate Director
The State Hygienic Laboratory (SHL) at the University of Iowa, is seeking an Associate Director of the Environmental Health Division. This position provides expertise and oversight for environmental testing services. Works with internal and external stakeholders to assure that customer expectations are met. Understands the national trends in technology. Ensures quality for both field and laboratory operations. Represent SHL at the local, state and federal level. Direct EHD budget development and make sure operations do not deviate from targeted budgets. Pursue scientific excellence, mentor and build EHD subject matter experts into teams to promote and accomplish SHL mission.

About the University of Iowa
Qualifications:
Education or Equivalency Required
A Master’s degree in Environmental Science or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Required Qualifications
· A minimum of 7 years of experience in an environmental lab or public health laboratory conducting environmental testing.
· Experience in grant writing and reporting, including the ability to develop compelling grant proposals and manage grant-funded projects.
· Experience in leading teams.
· Demonstrates effective communication, using varied tools and techniques to transmit, receive, and analyze information, both written and verbally with accuracy and attention to detail.
· Extensive proficiency with Windows based systems, computer and digital operations.
· Demonstrate job-related experience with fostering a welcoming and respectful work environment.
· Possession of a valid state or commercial driver's license, and the ability to meet University Fleet Safety Standards.
Highly Desirable Qualifications
· A PhD degree in Environmental Science or related field.
· Project management experience.
· Experience preparing fiscal and operational reports.
· Demonstrates working knowledge and experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS).
Desirable Qualifications
· Demonstrated experience with developing and publishing peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts.
