Athletics Therapist
Required Qualifications
- Clinical or counseling psychologists who have completed an APA-approved internship (12 months) and are licensed or license-eligible to practice psychology in the state of Iowa as a licensed psychologist. Recent clinical or counseling PhD graduates needing supervised licensure hours will be considered.
- Licensed master’s level mental health providers with counseling and sport psychology experience (LISW or LMSW) who have completed a Master’s Degree in Social Work or Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology (LMHC or equivalent). One year or more of clinical experience is required.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively, respectfully and appropriately with multiple populations in the Department, University and the community.
- Excellent written and electronic communication.
- Capable of handling multiple tasks in a high-stress environment.
- Able to accurately interpret and adhere to NCAA and BIG Conference rules, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, University of Iowa and the Department of Athletics policies, and Iowa licensure-related statutes.
- Knowledge and understanding of working with various populations.
Desirable Qualifications
- A doctoral degree from an APA accredited clinical or counseling psychology program (or equivalent) is preferred.
- 2 years or more of clinical experience in sport, higher education, or other related setting.
- Advanced training in sport psychology. Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) and/or willingness to obtain certification.
- Knowledge and understanding of unique aspects of student-athlete population.
- Experience, knowledge and understanding of eating disorders/disordered eating-assessment and treatment.
- Experience, knowledge, and ability to treat trauma and trauma-related issues.
