The University of Iowa Parking & Transportation department is seeking an Auto, Truck, and Transit Technician. This position will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing vehicles with mechanical, electrical, hydruallic and pnuematic problems. They are responsible for documenting their work on a Fleet Management Information System.

This position is performed fully on campus.
Duties to Include:
- Perform vehicle repairs
- Troubleshoot vehicle electrical problems
- Troubleshoot vehicle mechanical problems
- Test drive vehicles
- Use diagnostic equipment
- Enter data on computer
- Perform annual inspection on department owned vehicles
- Put new vehicles in service
- Take vehicles out of service
- Research technical publications
- Perform road service call

Schedule: Monday through Friday, with weekly rotating hours of 8:00am – 5:00pm and 10:00am – 7:00pm

About Parking & Transportation:
The Parking and Transportation Department provides and supports access, mobility, and transportation services to faculty, staff, students, patients, and visitors of The University of Iowa. The department consists of five operating units; CAMBUS, Commuter Programs, Fleet Services, Facility Operations, and Parking Services. These units collaborate to provide a broad range of parking and transportation options and services.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
- Four years’ experience in the trade, including apprenticeship and/or vocational training.
- Possess or obtain within 60 days of employment a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), with necessary endorsements, that is valid for all types of vehicles repaired.
- Possess or obtain within 6 months the necessary refrigeration license required for repairing vehicle AC systems.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Possess and maintain separate ASE Certifications in:
- ASE Certifications in Light-Duty/Automotive: (a) suspension and steering, (b) brakes, (c) electrical/electronic systems, (d) heating and air conditioning, and (e) engine performance or approved equivalent; and
- ASE Certifications in (a) diesel engines, (b) brakes, (c) suspension and steering, (d) electrical/electronic systems, and (e) heating and air conditioning for either the Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Series or Transit Bus Series or approved equivalent.
- If not certified at time of hire, employee must obtain ASE certifications (or approved equivalent) within 12 months of date of hire. One 6-month extension may be approved at management discretion.
- Meet the institutional standards for motor vehicle driving record history and related safety policies.
- Participation in the required Federal drug and alcohol-testing program for safety-sensitive employees.
- Passing the required DOT/FTA pre-employment drug test for safety-sensitive employees, as a condition of employment.
Special Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License and ability to meet and maintain UI Driving Policy
- A valid Class B CDL or ability to obtain with 60 days of hire, as well as the ability to meet and maintain University of Iowa Fleet safety Driving Standards; and
- Refrigerant certification or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience working in an automotive/heavy-duty vehicle repair shop
- Experience in automotive electronic troubleshooting
- Knowledge of current automotive technologies
- Experience working in an environment with a database work order system
- Work experience involving service calls in all weather
- Job relevant computer experience
- EPA Refrigerant certification
- ASE or other professional certifications
