The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a Behavioral Health Clinician to provide expert and very specialized practice skills in the area of adult and family psychotherapy, group therapy, and consultations.  This position will also be responsible for program development, supervision, teaching and training, research, administration, and public education.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
•    Provide planned and emergent mental health assessments of adult patients presenting with a range of behavioral health complaints and concerns in an outpatient clinic as well as a crisis stabilization unit.  
•    Formulate diagnostic opinions and treatment plans utilizing the criteria of the DSM 5. 
•    Provide individual, family and group psychotherapy services to extremely distressed, highly emotionally charged patients - including those diagnosed with eating disorders, disruptive behavior disorders, serious and persistent mental illnesses, mood disorders, anxiety and bi-polar disorders.  
•    Provide risk assessment for adult self-harm and harm to others.   
•    Differentially provide a wide range of therapeutic interventions including behavior modification, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and interpersonal modalities of treatment. 
•    Collaborate with members of the multi-disciplinary clinic treatment team to implement patient care recommendations. 
•    To comply with standards regarding attendance, documentation, continuous quality improvement, data collection, clinic policies and the Code of Ethics. 
•    To keep current with social work and health care knowledge base and to pursue further enhancements of job-related knowledge. 
•    To provide program development, teaching and research services. 
•    Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.

Required Education and Certifications
A Master's degree in Counseling or a related field is required.  
Must be licensed as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the State of Iowa by time of hire.

Required Qualifications 
Minimum 3-5 years Behavioral Health experience which includes experience in adult outpatient behavioral health care setting and providing psychotherapy services to patients and families on assigned clinical areas. 
Demonstrated experience with evidence-based practices including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy. 
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. 
Demonstrated experience collaborating as part of multi-disciplinary care teams, including ability to effect change and resolve recalcitrant problems. 
Must be able to attend initial onsite trainings in Iowa City and Coralville.
 
Desirable Qualifications 
Extensive experience providing evidenced based treatment for adults, and families is required (e.g., Cognitive behavioral, parent management training, interpersonal psychotherapy, and / or dialectical behavior psychotherapies).    
Experience providing planned and emergent assessments of patients presenting with a wide range of behavioral health complaints and concerns in adult inpatient and outpatient clinic settings. 
Experience formulating diagnostic opinions and treatment plans utilizing the criteria of the DSM 5. 
Experience providing individual, family, and group psychotherapy. 
Advanced graduate education and/or continuing education related to advanced behavioral health practice is desirable. 
Ability to provide a wide range of therapeutic interventions including behavior modification, cognitive behavioral therapy, and interpersonal modalities of treatment. 
Expertise in Iowa abuse / neglect law.
