The Department of Biostatistics Clinical Trials Data Management Center is seeking candidates for the position of Biostatistician II. This position, under the direction of the team leaders, will conduct analyses, communicate findings to collaborators, and collaborate with a team of biostatisticians engaged in multi-center clinical research.Together, the Biostatistics team is responsible for the development of all statistical analysis plans, randomization schemes, statistical reports and analyses, as well as overseeing all data sharing activities and providing statistical support for publications. This team works closely with all teams in the Center to design data collection forms using data standards and to produce FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) datasets. This position is part of a team that is actively engaged in all aspects of ongoing multi-center study operations at the Center and may be responsible for managing more than one project at a time and working with multiple clinicians with varying goals, backgrounds, and specialties.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND SPECIFIC JOB TASKS

Consultation: May advise investigators on the design of studies including statistical and operational aspects. Prepares statistical sections for complex studies. Communicates key statistical findings to team leaders and investigators. Writes reports of statistical analyses and prepares written materials for funding agencies and others. 

Statistical Analysis: Prepares and reviews data for validity and accuracy and recommends additional statistical tests and complex modifications to the statistical analysis. Creates, tests, and validates complex programs that generate data analyses, data summaries and data listings for reports using statistical packages or programming languages. May design, test, and validate simulation studies for sample size calculations and to examine small samples and other properties of statistical methods. Assists with developing statistical analysis plans. Assists investigators in the design and implementation of complex statistical analysis. Organizes, documents, maintains, and archives statistical analysis programs, data sets, and results. Prepares data sets for public use and reporting to appropriate funding agencies following all guidelines. May develop and apply new methods and trends in data analysis techniques to data sets. May develop and apply innovative applications of existing methodologies to data sets. Analyze and report on methods and trends in data analysis techniques and applies them to data sets with minimal oversight. 

Presentation/Publication Assistance: Prepares the statistical analysis sections for research presentations and publications. May assist in the preparation of grant applications. May lead presentations for conferences. 

Human Resources/Leadership:  Provides mentorship to other statisticians and across teams as well as supervision of project specific tasks. Participates in the team approach to development of general goals for the CTSDMC. May assist in training new staff.

Position and Application Details:

This position is eligible for on campus, hybrid and remote work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics, data science, or related field. In some cases, an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible work experience will be considered sufficient to meet the requirements of the role.

Proficient in SAS programming (minimum of 2 years of experience) including data step programming to perform data manipulations as needed for statistical analyses and/or data presentations and knowledge of proper SAS procedures for statistical analyses.

Strong verbal and written communications skills.

Demonstrated ability to perform and interpret complex statistical analysis procedures in mixed-effects modeling, categorical, longitudinal, and survival data analyses.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Some experience using relational database methods to manipulate and merge multiple large datasets to create analytical datasets.

Highly Desired:

Experience and background in clinical trials research through graduate level coursework or project experience.

At least 1 year of experience writing statistical analysis plans, analysis reports, protocols, or statistical methods sections.

Development of reports, tables, and listings in a professional setting.

At least 2 years of experience using SAS to navigate relational databases.

Proficient in the use of macros in SAS.

Experience with R programming skills including knowledge of data import procedures, data management, creating R functions and figures, and use of analysis packages generally associated with a minimum of 2 years’ experience.

Desired:

Experience with performing sample size and power calculations for planning actual research studies.

Experience with advanced statistical modeling using actual research data.

Professional experience of missing data techniques.

Professional experience of randomization procedures and sequence generation.
