Job Duties:
- Design and advise on research studies, including statistical planning and power/sample size estimation.
- Prepare statistical content for grants, IRB/IACUC applications, and regulatory submissions.
- Perform and document statistical analyses across clinical, basic science, and public health research.
- Develop and implement statistical methodologies, models, and software programs.
- Summarize findings through reports, visualizations, and presentations for collaborators and stakeholders.
- Support manuscript, abstract, and grant preparation with statistical input and analysis.
- Collaborate with investigators and external institutions on date analysis and interpretation.
- Design data collection tools and databases; ensure accurate data storage and retrieval.
- Contribute to teaching, training, mentoring, and outreach activities within the Biostatistics Unit.
- Participate in advisory committees and support statistical decision-making at the institutional level.
Biostatistician – PRL1
College of Dentistry – Iowa Institute of Oral Health & Research (Iowa City, IA)
Salary: $74,150 to commensurate (Pay Grade: 5A)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
Work Location: On-Site; a hybrid/remote work arrangement may be considered upon completion of training and will be at the discretion of the supervisor with consideration of institutional needs.
REQUIRES:
· Master’s degree in Biostatistics/Statistics, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible work experience which includes analysis of biological and/or clinical data.
· 1 Year experience with R statistical language including:
o Dataset creation,
o Familiarity with tidy data principles,
o Data cleaning and transformation,
o Project-oriented workflows,
o Report generation tools such as R Markdown or Sweave, and
o Knowledge of proper procedure for statistical analyses.
· Demonstrated excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
HIGHLY Desirable:
· >=2 years relevant experience.
· Demonstrated fluency with Stata and SAS language.
· Experience with sample size and power estimation.
· Experience mentoring/educating students/colleagues.
Desirable:
· Experience analyzing:
o Oral health related datasets, and
o Statistical genetic data from genetic epidemiology investigations.
· Experience with survey research and survey data analysis.
· Experience with:
o Repeated measures analysis,
o Linear and non-linear mixed effects models,
o Cluster analysis,
o Survival analysis,
o Evaluation of rater and machine reliability, for both qualitative and quantitative outcomes, and
o Handling, analysis, and graphical representation of high dimensional data.
· Experience with machine learning approaches.
· Knowledge of dental nomenclature and classification.
· Demonstrated ability to function independently and in a team environment.
