Chemical Safety Coordinator
Education or Equivalency Required
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, engineering or a physical science including two years of chemistry and proficiency with chemical nomenclature.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrate a working level proficiency of safe practices for hazardous materials handling, storage and control of such hazards in a lab or research setting.
- Demonstrate a high-level proficiency processing information accurately and with attention to detail (e.g., auditing or related work, or government regulatory compliance).
- Demonstrate proficiency with tools like laptops or tablets, techniques and processes for gathering and reporting data in a department or division.
- Demonstrate ability to use Microsoft Office programs and mobile devices for data recording and retrieval.
- Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Desirable Qualifications
- Work experience in a university or laboratory environment dealing with hazardous materials and/or laboratory safety issues.
- Knowledge of university or laboratory policies, procedures and regulations.
- Practical experience (typically 1­3 years) with occupational or environmental health and safety issues, e.g., conducting assessments and/or audits.
