The State Hygienic Laboratory (Iowa’s Environmental and Public Health Laboratory), at the University of Iowa, under contract with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, has an exciting full-time opportunity for a Clerk III in the Coralville, Iowa facility.  The primary function of the position is to contribute to the Laboratory Support Services section of the State Hygienic Laboratory (SHL).  This position is expected to provide superior customer service and support to the SHL clientele via telephone and other modes of communication.  The primary responsibilities will include answering the main phone line as operator to the clinical and environmental divisions, clerical duties such as data entry, data management, customer services, responding to customer requests, etc.

 Position Status: Regular Merit

 Work Schedule: M-F, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. with rotating weekends and Holidays

 Work Modality: In person, with possibility of hybrid (within Iowa) after the initial training period.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

About the State Hygienic Laboratory
The
State Hygienic Laboratory’
s main facilities are headquartered on the University of Iowa's Research Park campus northwest of Iowa City in Coralville. Additional testing facilities are part of the Iowa Laboratory Facilities in Ankeny, a Des Moines suburb.

Since 1904, the State Hygienic Laboratory has been at the forefront of public health issues in Iowa. As the state’s public health and environmental laboratory, the Hygienic Laboratory serves all of Iowa’s 99 counties through disease detection, environmental monitoring, and newborn and maternal screening.

Qualifications:

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

       ·        Any combination of related clerical office experience, related undergraduate education, and/or post high school clerical training that is the equivalent to two years of full-time employment.


Desirable Qualifications

·         Ability to perform tasks that require accuracy, attention to detail, including accurate record keeping.

·         Basic office experience.

·         Previous experience in data entry

·         Thirty words per minute typing ability.

·         Knowledge of environmental and/or clinical terminology.

·         Excellent communication and customer service skills is a must.
