Position Summary

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Radiology is seeking a Clerk III to serve as the primary administrative support and communication liaison for the Radiology Resident Overnight Reading Room. This position is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate communication of patient and examination information while serving as the first point of contact for patients, providers, and visitors, both in person and by phone. The Clerk III plays a key role in coordinating workflow, supporting efficient department operations, and maintaining accurate documentation to help ensure high-quality patient care and exceptional customer service.

Position Responsibilities

  • Communicates patient and exam information to the Radiologist from referring providers, technologists, and other healthcare personnel

  • Assists Radiologists by making phone calls and locating ordering providers for communication from the Radiologist when reading the studies

  • Reviews EPIC reading work lists and Status Reports to assist Radiologists in the reading workflow

  • Handles orders from providers for external Radiology exams

  • Troubleshoots external image transfer issues

  • Effectively communicates and assists with securing outside imaging for urgent/emergent transfers

  • Completes first level troubleshooting for PACS related issues

  • Assists with special projects as assigned by staff

Percent of Time: 60%

Schedule: Saturday- Sunday; 2030-0830

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • Any combination of related clerical office experience, related undergraduate education, and/or post high school clerical training that is the equivalent to two years of full-time employment

Special Qualifications Requirements

  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Public Contact/Customer Service Experience

Desired Qualifications 

  • Six months clinical administrative experience
  • Experience working with EPIC software/system
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
