Clerk Typist III - Medical Scribe - OBGYN
The University of Iowa Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a patient centered allied health professional desiring a clearly defined medical career path. A Medical Scribe (Clerk Typist III) in Obstetrics and Gynecology division of Maternal Fetal Medicine will act as an assistant to the physician; performing documentation in Epic, gathering information for the patient's visit, and partnering with the physician to deliver efficient patient care. The Scribe will perform complex typing or word processing assignments on a regular and recurring basis, such as typing physician notes and templates requiring specialized terminology, and perform related clerical work as required. Duties involve the use of personal computers, computer terminals, and a variety of software some of which may be discipline specific.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology provides consultation, comprehensive treatment planning and a broad range of services for patients with normal and high-risk pregnancies and for gynecology, including oncology and reproductive endocrinology. Our comprehensive medical, surgical, and nursing services span the full spectrum of all obstetric and gynecologic patients at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. In addition to patient care, the department is noted for its strong educational programs for sonography students, medical students, residents, fellows, and practicing physicians. Basic and clinical research in reproductive medicine is an important departmental activity.
Position Responsibilities:
- Prepares and types complex medical records within the electronic health record and ultrasound reporting software.
- Assists physicians in developing and editing clinical documentation templates.
Required Qualifications:
Any combination of related clerical office experience, related undergraduate education and/or post high school clerical training that is the equivalent to two years of full-time employment and includes the use of word processing.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with scribing for physicians entering medical information into Epic (Electronic Medical Record)
- Typing proficiency
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Excellent organization skills
- Ability to multitask
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills with a multi-disciplinary team
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field
