Clinical Practice Leader (CPL) - Orthopedics, Trauma, Spine (3RC)

In April 2023, our acute orthopedics unit (3RCP) expanded to become a 48-bed adult surgical unit focusing on the care of orthopedics, trauma, and spine patients. During this exciting time of unit growth, we are looking for motivated individuals that are passionate about the quality of care they provide.
The Orthopedics, Trauma, Spine believes it is our responsibility to provide patient centered care that will enable our patients and their families to cope with the physiological and psychological aspects of their illness or injury. We believe that exceptional care of our patient embodies excellent clinical skills intertwined with compassionate care to achieve maximum quality of life.
The pulse of our nursing team is teamwork for the sake of holistic patient-centered care and a healthy work environment that allows our staff to thrive and grow both personally and professionally by providing all necessary resources for staff to excel and achieve their career goals.
Unit Staff Provides Care for Patients Who Experience:
- Traumas/Orthopedic Injuries (motor vehicle accidents, fractures, skeletal traction, etc.)
- Reconstructive joint surgery (hip, knee, shoulder)
- Osteosarcoma removal and reconstruction
- Spine surgery
- Hand surgery
- Foot and Ankle surgery
- Amputations
- Sports injuries
- Young adult hip preservation procedures
As a Clinical Practice Leader, you will:
- Lead with Purpose: Champion clinical care at the microsystem level, fostering improvements in patient outcomes and staff development.
- Inspire Innovation: Drive evidence-based practice through education, quality initiatives, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Be the Expert: Provide mentorship, ensure staff competencies, and guide the implementation of cutting-edge nursing practices.
- Ensure Excellence: Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and proactively support a culture of continuous improvement.
Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: Monday-Friday, day shift, shared leadership on-call

Education or Equivalency Required:
- Master’s degree in Nursing required. Specialty in Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL/CNS) designation preferred.
Required Qualifications:
- Current, valid license to practice nursing in Iowa
- 3+ years of clinical nursing experience.
- Demonstrates knowledge and experience with:
- Staff education and development
- Outcomes based practice and quality improvement
- Leading change processes including implementation of evidence-based practice.
- Staff education and development
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in computer software applications
Desired Qualifications:
- Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) – Certification by the Commission on Nurse Certification or certification relevant to clinical specialty.
- Demonstrate ability to understand and deliver care at the microsystem level while being part of a larger, complex environment.
- Role models professional and clinical practice.
- Experience with nursing research.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills and ability to problem solve.
- Member/active participation in professional organization(s).
