Clinical Research Assistant - Preventive & Community Dentistry
The College of Dentistry’s, Preventive & Community department is looking for a part time Clincial Research Assistant! If you have an interest in dental research and you are a licensed Dental Hygienist or registered Dental Assistant w/added qualfication of radiology, in the state of Iowa, this job is for you! In this multifaceted position, you’ll prepare dental operatories, conduct digital scanning, collect clinical data, coordinate study logistics, research documents and more! Job Duties:
- Prepare & Assist: Get the dental operatory ready for exams and digital scanning while ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
- Research Execution: Interface with participants and examiners, administering clinical exams, questionnaires, digital intraoral scans, and collecting biological specimens per research protocol.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate AxiUm dental records and manage study data through REDCap, including generating reports and summarizing participant progress.
· Survey & Interview Administration: Conduct in-depth interviews and administer surveys to gather key data, providing detailed reports to the Principal Investigator.
· Collaborative Support: Assist in developing and updating study materials, including survey instruments and data forms, and help with subject recruitment and retention efforts.
· Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all research procedures comply with safety standards and regulatory guidelines, including IRB submissions and informed consent.
· Travel Coordination: Support the project team with road trips, organizing rooms, vehicles, and staff for offsite participant exams.
· Financial Oversight: Manage study-related finances, including procurement card purchases and reconciling research charges.

College of Dentistry – Iowa Institute of Oral Health & Research (Iowa City, IA)
Salary: $29,237.50 (50% FTE) to commensurate (Pay Grade: 4A)
Schedule: 20 hours - TBD – Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm
May require occasional overtime.
REQUIRES:
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
· Typically, 1 year of relevant experience with patient or research participant interactions, gathering health histories, and/or administering questionnaires/interviews.
· State of Iowa Dental Hygiene license or Dental Assistant Registration to include Dental Radiography.
· Requires occasional travel to satellite research location(s) in Iowa.
· Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
· Social science research experience.
· Experience working with human subjects/institutional review boards.
· Experience and comfort with clinical plaque and saliva samples.
Driver’s License and ability to pass University Driver’s License Review system.
