Clinical/Technical Specialist - DeGowin Blood Bank - 1st Shift
The Department of Pathology is seeking a Clinical Services and Quality Control Specialist to perform routine tasks associated with the calibration, validation, and preventive maintenance of a diverse range of biomedical instrumentation used in the manufacturing and storage of blood components and diagnostic testing applications, including review, and troubleshooting of testing and product quality control. This role will also collaborate with Operating Rooms, Labor and Delivery and Emergency Department on blood kiosk utilization. This position is 100% time, Monday-Friday from 0800-1630.
- Performs routine equipment maintenance and troubleshoots minor problems when indicated.
- Oversee Blood Bank equipment list, adding new equipment, ensuring new equipment QC and preventive maintenance requirements are operationalized. Removes archived equipment, arranging sending to Surplus.
- Oversees blood product quality control, ensuring appropriate volume of testing, timeliness, and acceptability. Investigates unacceptable results and notifies the MLS supervisor of problems.
- Reviews maintenance and quality control records. Investigates problems and notifies the MLS supervisor of any issues. Follows up on corrective action with supervisors on missed QC and maintenance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in, Clinical Lab Science, Medical Technology, biological, or other healthcare-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification or eligibility for certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency (NCA) as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
- 1-3 years clinical laboratory experience.
- General knowledge of laboratory principles and techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, to meet deadlines efficiently, to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and to be highly self-motivated.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience in an academic medical center, preferably in Transfusion Medicine.
- 3 years of experience in Transfusion Medicine is highly desirable, preferably in Transfusion medicine.
- Demonstrated experience working with and knowledge of the AABB, FDA, CAP regulations is highly desirable.
