Clinical Technician II (EKG)- Stead Family Children's Hosptial
Position Summary |
Under general supervision, administers EKGs on Pediatric Specialty Clinic and throughout the Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Responsible for editing reports of EKGs to the computer, as well as assisting with other diagnostic testing procedures in the Pediatric EKG/Holter/Treadmill laboratories.
Position Responsibilities |
· Perform EKGs for patients located in both the Pediatric Specialty Clinic and throughout the Stead Family Children’s Hospital including completing appropriate recordings and paperwork during and after analysis.
· Notify providers with EKG results when appropriate, responsible for communication with inpatient unit clerks as necessary
· Troubleshoot concerns with EKG machine as well as within IntelliSpace ECG.
· Responsible for maintaining fully stocked carts for EKG’s
· Performs necessary maintenance on equipment to ensure operational condition.
· Provides assistance and answers questions for clinical technicians, externs, physicians and technicians in outlying hospitals.
· Performs placement of Holter monitors and 30-day event recorders.
· Holter testing responsibly includes skin preparation and lead placement, patient instruction on use and return, obtain consent to return equipment documentation, troubleshoot concerns with device or lead wires, recording of device condition and tracking of monitors for appropriate return time.
· Manage and create encounters through EPIC for outside testing performed within Pediatric Cardiology (EKGs, Holters)
· Document and maintain appropriate billing with all necessary supporting documentation.
· Responsible for providing results to outside facilities as interpretations are completed.
· Assist with patient prep and instruction for exercise testing within the exercise lab
· Maintain all necessary supplies and equipment within the exercise lab including items from stores as well as other vendors.
· Responsible for preparing items for processing through central sterilization.
· Maintains and monitors inventories of EKG supplies for use with the systems and suggests and replacement for out-of-date equipment.
· Follows general policies and procedures in accordance with the regulations of the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Stead Family Department of Pediatrics and Division of Pediatric Cardiology
· Edits reports of EKGs to the computer.
· Assist the Cardiac Rehab specialist with treadmill testing/maintenance.
· Provides support with scheduling and downloading outside echoes and EKGs into the system.
· Assist with clinic, echo and exercise lab flow for outpatients.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements |
· Two years of health care experience involving direct patient care including use of specialized medical equipment at the level of a Clinical Technician I or equivalent, or a combination of related education and experience.
Special Qualification: |
· BLS Certification
Desired Qualifications |
· Experience performing EKGs
· Previous experience working with pediatric patients.
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Strong attention to detail.
