Position Qualifications

This position requires the following minimum position qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Experience in an administrative office function (minimum 6 months to 1 year).
    Office Administration:  Demonstrates extensive proficiency in carrying out ongoing office administration tasks effectively in support of a large, complex office.  Such tasks include serving as a first point of contact, providing information on procedures and resources, and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Communicating for Effective Relationships:  Demonstrates working knowledge of and ability to apply communication techniques (including listening skills) and relationship building skills to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Resourcefulness and Judgment:  Demonstrates working ability to apply past experience and analysis of information to the decision-making process to arrive at sound and timely conclusions.
  • Relationship Management:  Demonstrates working ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with students, colleagues, and the public.
  • Student Employee Management:  Demonstrates working knowledge of human resources and personnel management processes related to student employees; demonstrates working ability and desire to lead, motivate, evaluate, and reward student employees.
  • Planning and Organizing:  Demonstrates working ability to mobilize both time and resources to get things done.
  • Desktop Tools:  Demonstrates working knowledge of and ability to use office support tools available on the desktop (e.g., word processing, e-mail, and spreadsheets).
  • Collaboration and Embracing Diversity:  Demonstrates working proficiency in interacting with a variety of individuals in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
  • Service Excellence:  Demonstrates working ability to meet or exceed service needs and expectations and to provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner; demonstrates working ability to effectively transmit and interpret information through appropriate communication with internal and external constituencies.

The following are desired position qualifications:

  • Experience in a directly related capacity is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Organization:  Demonstrates basic knowledge of and insight into the University’s and Academic Advising Center’s vision, structure, culture, philosophy, operating principles, values, and code of ethics; demonstrates basic ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Knowledge of Specific Policies:  Demonstrates basic knowledge of University policies and processes related to undergraduates.
  • Facilitating Student Transition:  Demonstrates basic knowledge of and ability to provide new incoming students with a welcoming environment and to familiarize them with school facilities, policies, services, and expectations for college success and retention.

Compensation: The successful incumbent will be hired at a salary of $42,000 which is within the pay level 2B range.
