Core Facility Research Prof
Education Requirements |
A Bachelors Degree in a science field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Experience Requirements |
- 5-7 years of experience in an area within the biomedical sciences or a related field, and 1–2 years experience in technical editing.
- Ability to critique scientific data across a broad range of disciplines, including molecular biology, and to present complex data in formats that are easy to digest, and to provide feedback in highly organized and collegial manner.
- Experience in writing and technical editing of research manuscripts and grant applications, with working knowledge of requirements of funding agencies (in particular the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation) and journals covering areas related to the biomedical sciences.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, high degree of professionalism and diplomacy, and ability to develop working relationships with campus faculty and staff, as well as to collaborate with research development professionals in other units.
- Experience teaching scientific writing to post-doctoral trainees and graduate students, including
preparing resources on scientific writing and grantsmanship for faculty and trainees.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work under short deadlines.
- Willingness to travel and conduct occasional evening/weekend work.
- Excellent command of Microsoft Word (including editing functions), Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint.

- A Ph.D. and post-doctoral experience in the biomedical sciences.
- Broad general knowledge of science.
- Experience organizing and developing courses.
- Established working relationships with faculty at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.
