Core Facility Research Specialist - Department of Biology
• At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in the areas of molecular biology and/or genomics research, as well as demonstrated experience with teaching protocols involving the use of genomics research instrumentation.
• Significant direct (hands-on) experience in a laboratory setting working with PCR and Sanger sequencing instruments.
• Ability to adapt and learn new technologies, instrumentation, and experimental procedures.
• Basic computer and file organization skills and demonstrated ability to quickly master technical software.
• Job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with a variety of people on a consistent basis including faculty, staff and students.
Desired Qualifications:
• Familiarity with equipment such as ABI 3730, Bio-Rad ddPCR, Bio-Rad Experion, NanoDrop, thermocyclers, Turner fluorometer, Li-COR imaging systems, and SpecraMax M2 plate reader.
• Direct (hands-on) experience in a laboratory setting working with digital droplet (dd)-ddPCR and real-time (RT)-PCR instruments.
• Demonstrated proficiency working with and analyzing genomic datasets.
• Programming skills (python, R, shell, etc.) and experience working with databases.
• Experience with NextGen DNA and RNA library preparation.
• Experience in NextGen sequencing data management and analysis (resequencing, mRNA-seq and transcriptomes, de novo genome annotation, etc.).
• Familiarity with the Department of Biology and the Carver Center for Genomics at UI.
• Knowledge of University of Iowa policies, procedures and regulations.
