Custodial Services Manager
Position Summary:
Manage Custodial Services operations and personnel in order to provide the best in industry services for health, safety and appearance. Development of staff including planning, scheduling, coordinating and training on procedures, policies, expectations and professionalism. Developing and ensuring the future of custodial services within all residence halls of Housing properties at The University of Iowa. Responsible for supporting and implementing the Iowa GROW program with student employees as a part of our commitment to student success.
Specific Job Duties & Tasks:
- Initiate, monitor and approve requisitions for supplies, equipment and furniture.
- Perform administrative activities including the preparation of specific and periodic reports, fiscal records and service charges.
- Evaluate and review the performance of assigned staff and recommend or initiate human resources actions such as interviewing, selection, performance reviews, promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures.
- Train and evaluate employees in new or revised work methods and procedures and orient new employees.
- Develop, direct and control work schedules and priorities for departmental staff.
- Estimate job requirements, including staffing, equipment and supplies.
- Schedule, assign, and monitor the work of assigned staff.
- Recommend measures to improve production/service methods, equipment performance, scheduling, quality control, and suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency and safety of the unit.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License and the ability to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Safety Driving Record Review Standards.
- Willingness and ability to work hours outside of regular schedule and weekends.
- Professional experience (5 years – 7 years) of custodial leadership experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of custodial experience is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Demonstrates a working proficiency in use of computers and Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Demonstrates a working proficiency in the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups while appreciating the unique contribution of people of all backgrounds and perspectives.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate, engage in teamwork and develop self to prepare for new or changing assignments, processes, people or priorities as organizational needs dictate at a working proficiency level.
Desirable Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of commercial custodial experience.
- Self-motivated individual with strong commitment to teamwork and customer service experience.
- Reasonable experience in handling multiple assignments, conflicting demands and priorities.
- Basic experience in a work site covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
- Working experience in staff development and training.
- Experience overseeing a large diverse workforce.
- Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures.
- Experience working in a residence hall, apartment complex, hospital, nursing home or similar residential facility.
- Experience in minor equipment and building repairs.
- Ability to exhibit a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
