Custodian II
Position Description:
University Housing & Dining is seeking to hire a Custodian II to provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment in all residence halls. Under general supervision, assigns, reviews, coordinates and inspects custodial activities in the area of assignment in accordance with established guidelines. Duties to include:
- Performing front-line custodial duties.
- Receiving written and oral instructions concerning general custodial duties/staff.
- Developing work schedules and directing and inspecting daily work routines of other custodial staff.
- Assisting in planning procedures and work methods and advising or recommending revisions for the purposes of improving the efficiency of operations and services.
- Interviewing and recommending the hiring of custodial personnel as requested.
- Communication with supervisor, leadership team and staff.
- Ability to perform all processes required by the department and use all equipment provided to perform duties.
- Maintaining records and inventory of multiple items including but not limited to time records, scheduling, staffing, etc.
Schedule: Generally, hours are 7:15AM to 4:00PM. Working every 3rd weekend with rotating Tuesdays and Thursdays off. May work occasional overtime to cover absences and peak periods of operation.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
- Ability to read, write and follow directions.
- One year of custodial or related experience.
Special Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Driving Record Review Standards.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Ability to maintain and exercise a high level of confidentiality and professional communication.
- Knowledge and experience using computers, tablets, and related software.
- Experience cleaning commercial environments using commercial equipment in areas such as residence halls, hotels, hospitals, or nursing homes.
- Knowledge of commercial cleaning techniques for a variety of surfaces and materials.
- Physical ability to move heavy objects (50+ lbs) properly and safely, and remain on your feet for the duration of the shift.
- Experience inspecting a variety of areas, including eye wash stations, washers/dryers, vandalism locations, and battery systems (including proper filling techniques).
- Demonstrated experience completing assigned projects from start to finish with minimal oversight.
