The Tippie College of Business’ Director of Alumni Engagement will develop, implement, and evaluate strategies to engage alumni in the life of the college. Using data analysis to guide strategic thinking, this person will be responsible for building relationships, generating lifelong learning content for alumni, coordinating alumni-focused events, and communicating to the college’s more than 58,000 living alumni. This person will work closely with alumni in key geographic locations/companies and on various advisory boards, as well as with other alumni and University of Iowa Center for Advancement (UICA) personnel.  Responsibilities will require some travel and time outside the 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. workday. This position resides within Tippie’s Marketing and Communications team and reports to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications. 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND SPECIFIC JOB TASKS


Message Development and Implementation 

  • Develop, manage, and implement communication strategies for outreach activities, events, and partnership initiatives. Ensure that outreach messaging follows the organization's brand and messaging goals. Assess the success of communication initiatives developed for outreach and partnership programs
  • Manage alumni web pages and registration forms devoted to alumni relations and alumni events.

Public Relations 

  • Maintain relationships with appropriate constituency groups including alumni, donors, and corporate partners. Plan and develop programming to encourage engagement with unit, department, or college.
  • May represent college or unit on internal or external committees, agencies, and associations.
  • Oversee the coordination of complex alumni-focused in-person and virtual events. 

Information Management 

  • Evaluate alumni-focused programs and interpret results. Make recommendations to senior level administrators based on the data.
  • Become proficient in the use of the university’s alumni database, most notably in the area of pulling lists for strategic planning, events, mailings, and communications.
  • Work with Tippie’s Graduate Program to establish and oversee their alumni strategy, such as establishing a recruiting ambassador program.
  • Update alumni information in the UICA database and college SalesForce database using appropriate channels. 

Strategic Planning 

  • Develop, establish, and coordinate outreach and engagement strategies, plans, and solutions for unit, department or college/org. Provide recommendations for strategic opportunities and relationship development
  • Develop a strategic plan for alumni engagement and growth of the Tippie alumni program and evaluate its effectiveness on a yearly basis. 


Financial Responsibility 

  • Analyze, monitor, and report financial data, budgets, information, and reports.
  • Develop and manage budget for area, unit, or department. 

Supervision/Leadership 

  • Supervise staff and student workers.
  • Ensure compliance with all UI and UICA policies and procedures.

Hybrid within Iowa: This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location. 

 Salary: $70,000-Commensurate

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications 

  • Considerable (7+ years’) experience in event planning and/or work with constituent bases.
  • Extensive experience maintaining productive, long-term relationships with external audiences and partners.
  • Experience developing communication and promotional materials for events and campaigns.
  • Working ability to plan, estimate, and execute events including all logistics.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet and maintain standards of the UI Fleet Safety Program.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting implementation of strategic plans related to a welcoming and respectful workplace environment and professional experience maintaining productive relationships while considering multiple perspectives.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with institutions of higher education is a plus. Work with schools of business is highly desired.  
  • Working knowledge of and experience dealing with issues that require confidentiality.
  • Working knowledge of social media channels and their operation.
