Required Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science
  • High level of professional competency in written and spoken Chinese or Japanese. For Chinese, also have an understanding of the ALA-LC Romanization Table for Chinese (pinyin) and familiarity with both simplified and traditional Chinese scripts. For Japanese, also have an understanding of the ALA-LC Romanization Table for Japanese and familiarity with both classical and modern Japanese scripts.
  • Familiarity with OCLC Connexion.
  • Knowledge of RDA, LC/PCC PS, LC classification, LCSH, MARC21 formats, CEAL CJK cataloging best practices, and familiarity with authority control and AACR2.
  • Excellent communications skills (oral and/or written) and the ability to effectively communicate with the intended audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based setting where consultation, flexibility, collaboration, and cooperation are essential.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion in an academic environment, in a workplace setting, and/or in the community.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the mission of a research university and the mission and functions of a large research library.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Recent cataloging experience.
  • Experience with the systems and tools used in the department including one or more of the following: Alma, Primo.
  • Familiarity with Unicode and issues related to the input, indexing, and display of CJK scripts in one or more library systems.
  • Familiarity with non-MARC metadata formats, such as MODS or EAD.
  • Familiarity with BIBFRAME and linked data, and a general understanding of transition paths from MARC to BIBFRAME.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Successful completion of NACO training.

The hiring salary range for this Specialist Librarian position is $52,500 - $72,000
