Education or Equivalency Required
  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications
  • Typically 3-5 years of experience serving students in a higher education student support setting, or experience in counseling or advising, college/university students from underrepresented populations.  Experience with US racially and ethnically diverse students is required, as well as serving additional underrepresented groups such as students with disabilities, first generation, LGBTQ, military/veteran, and low-income.
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, race, creed, color, national origin, age, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
  • Knowledge and application of the communication techniques and relationship building skills that develop the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Understanding of the issues related to the decision-making process; ability to analyze situations fully and accurately, and reach productive decisions.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database applications is required.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse student population; and demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment is required.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge of assessment and evaluation methods
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa policies, procedures and regulations is desired.
