Percent of time: 100%

Schedule: 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday-Friday.

Location: University Services Building

 

This position will perform continuous commissioning activities of HVAC systems to insure proper UI design standards compliance and consistent operation strategies; Evaluate and tune existing HVAC systems to optimize performance and efficiency; Participate in building optimization activities utilizing DDC systems and FDD software to proactively implement operational improvement measures derived from data gathering. Participate in design standard consultation, prepare records and documentation to ensure that accurate as-built drawings are maintained and recorded based upon updates or changes to building operation; Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public while performing all work assigned

 

Specific Job Duties:

·         Lead technical teams and coordinate work efforts to implement improvements to major building systems.

·         Conduct training for building maintenance staff on the design and operation of HVAC systems in their building.

·         Complete documentation of project actions for purposes of documenting energy savings and for collection of energy incentive funds from the local utility.

·         Develop work plans for project implementation based upon engineering analysis of current system performance and failures

·         Use experience with system operation, FDD, and failure modes to develop plans for installing data loggers and other metering equipment to diagnose performance issues and monitor the benefits of the corrective actions

·         Line up and oversee performance of outside contractors for completion of project tasks.

·         Evaluate and tune existing HVAC systems to optimize performance and efficiency. Manipulate existing sequences of operation to meet current operation expectations and aggressive occupancy scheduling.

·         Participate in design review, specification standards, and cost estimating for university projects.

·         Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public while performing all work assigned.

 

 

 

Facilities Management (FM) is a service unit of approximately 700 employees who work behind the scenes, 24 hours a day, serving the University of Iowa as stewards of our beautiful Iowa City campus.   FM staff coordinate campus master planning, manage design & construction, maintain & clean the buildings & the grounds, and provide utilities management.

Education Requirement

·         BS in Engineering or an equivalent combination of related education and experience with an emphasis on building automation systems to support energy conservation practices

 

Experience Required

·         3-5 years’ experience in construction coordination of major facilities and HVAC systems, including experience in building systems design, installation, operation, and commissioning as it relates to energy conservation;

·         Excellent communication (written and verbal) and problem solving skills;

·         Knowledge of DDC building automation systems;

·         Ability to conduct fieldwork and interact with clients in a professional and responsive manner.

·         Ability to perform quick energy analysis related to building commissioning solutions;

·         Ability to work with a diverse group of staff at all levels of an organization.

 

 

Desirable Qualifications

 

·         7-10 years’ experience in construction coordination of major facilities and HVAC systems, including experience in building systems design, installation, operation, and commissioning as it relates to energy conservation

·         Experience in a customer focused, team-oriented environment;

·         Ability to troubleshoot HVAC system problems related to controls;

·         Ability to provide mechanical, electrical, and DDC control training in building systems operation;

·         Knowledge of University of Iowa Direct Digital Control systems, and HVAC building systems;

·         Able to provide clarity and direction to complex and ambiguous problems and challenges.

·         Experience with CMMS
