Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering discipline, Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering discipline and related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience equal to master’s level studies.
  • Expert knowledge and experience (typically 7 or more years) with environmental permitting, modeling, and management.
  • Extensive ability and experience (typically 5 or more years) applying an organization's performance management system, practices, and tools to supervising, developing, and improving individual, team, and organizational performance.
  • Extensive experience negotiating with regulatory agencies for permit terms and rules interpretation
  • Demonstrated experience handling unique environmental compliance challenges and risks to foresee/identify potential problems and proactively identify solutions to address in advance.
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and build healthy working relationships and partnerships with colleagues within and external to own unit, those to whom services are provided, vendors, the public, regulatory/governmental agencies, etc., all of whom may be seen as "customers" or receivers of services provided by the University.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff, and students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • JD Degree
  • Demonstrated experience with developing and implementing continuous improvement processes.
  • Experience directly supervising environmental compliance staff and/or staff working from remote locations.
  • Experience with environmental requirements for power plants.
  • Extensive ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to utilize tools, techniques and processes for gathering and reporting data.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, policies and practices for planning and administering a budget.
