Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Culinary degree or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience (typically 5 years or more) leading a culinary team, including banquet and catering leadership experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of food preparation, methods, techniques, and terminology used on food service operations.
  • Commitment to and alignment with the values of the Division of Student Life, including a demonstrated, active commitment to excellence through diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • A strong understanding of and ability to research, replicate, and produce various types of world and local cuisines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to transmit, receive and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors.
  • Ability to work and collaborate with a variety of individuals and groups while appreciating the unique contributions of individuals.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks as well as respond quickly and effectively to challenges.
  • Experience with electronic food service systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software programs (e.g. Word, Excel, and Outlook.)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain ServSafe certification, as well as the ability to demonstrate departmental leadership in sanitation efforts.
  • Ability to understand and work effectively with local vendor community.
  • Ability to represent the department as a purchasing leader with vendors.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position.
  • Certification by the American Culinary Federation as a Certified Executive Chef or the ability to earn certification within two years of hire.
  • Experience in a higher education environment with knowledge of university business procedures, policies, and practices.
