The department of Laundry Services intends to hire a Facilities Mechanic at either the Facilities Mechanic IFacilities Mechanic II, or Facilities Mechanic III classification based on the qualifications of the successful candidate.

 

The Facilities Mechanic performs in the repairing, servicing, and maintaining of buildings and electrical, mechanical and plumbing equipment. These positions are not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization.

Duties to Include:

  • Follow and maintain the department’s preventive maintenance schedule

  • Diagnose/Assists with equipment systems malfunctions and repair in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.

  • Provide data entry support for the department’s preventative maintenance software system.

  • Keep maintenance shop area and storage areas organized and all tools in proper working conditions.

 

Location: Laundry Services Building, at 2000 Cross Park Road, Coralville, IA 52242

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 4:00am-12:30pm, overtime may be required

Pay: Starting pay rate for the three classification levels:

  • Facilities Mechanic I: $36,707.04
  • Facilities Mechanic II: $38,419.20
  • Facilities Mechanic III: $48,713.04

Facilities Mechanic I – Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Ability to read, write, and follow directions.

Facilities Mechanic I - Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of laundry/industrial equipment and methods used in maintenance work.

  • Knowledge of safe working practices.

  • Ability to work in a variety of environments including confined spaces, low light areas, at heights, with exposure to extreme temperatures.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions. 

  • Ability to work with and around a welcoming culture.

  • Good communication skills and experience working on a team 

Facilities Mechanic II - Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Two years’ experience in general mechanical or electrical maintenance or other building facilities construction work.

Facilities Mechanic II - Desired Qualifications:

  • Prefer 1 year knowledge of laundry/industrial equipment, computer laundry/industrial systems programs, installing, inspecting, maintenance, repair, preventive maintenance on laundry/industrial equipment.

  • Knowledge/field experience repair/maintenance of building gas fired/water heater & electric fresh air/exhaust vents.

  • Training or field experience working on high pressure steam system and experience in assisting with microprocessor controls on equipment experience with repair and maintenance of HVAC systems.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions. 

  • Ability to work with and around a welcoming culture.

  • Good communication skills and experience working on a team

 

Facilities Mechanic III – Minimum Eligibility Requirement:

  • Must possess a basic knowledge of plumbing, electricity, maintenance of steam and mechanical equipment; and

  • Must have four years of work experience in the listed crafts, including apprenticeship or technical training. At least two years of that experience must be in the same craft.

Facilities Mechanic III - Desired Qualifications:

  • Prefer 2 years knowledge of laundry/industrial equipment: computer laundry/industrial system programs, installing, inspecting, maintenance, repair, preventative maintenance on laundry/industrial equipment.

  • Knowledge/field experience repair/maintenance of building gas fired/water heater & electric fresh air/exhaust vents.

  • Training or field experience working on high pressure steam system and experience in assisting with microprocessor controls on equipment experience with repair and maintenance of HVAC systems.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
