University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Engineering Services, Maintenance Shop, is seeking a Facilities Mechanic III.

  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the repairing, servicing, and maintaining of buildings and electrical, mechanical and plumbing equipment. Performs trouble-shooting, routine and preventive maintenance in the repair and maintenance of buildings, facilities and equipment within assigned areas of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics;
  • This includes, but is not limited to general carpentry, electrical, plumbing HVAC maintenance and repairs and other duties as assigned;
  • Daily use of computer maintenance management software program to document daily work completed;
  • Additional duties as required.

Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM; additional hours as required
Rotations: Work weekends and holidays as scheduled for on-call

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Must possess a basic knowledge of plumbing, electricity, maintenance of steam and mechanical equipment; and
  2. Must have four years of work experience in the listed crafts, including apprenticeship or technical training. At least two years of that experience must be in the same craft.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Maintenance experience in a healthcare setting
  • Customer service experience
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Plumbing apprenticeship
  • Experience and knowledge of State Plumbing Codes.
