The University of Iowa Custodial Services department is seeking a Facilities Services Coordinator. Under general supervision, the Facilities Services Coordinator oversees facilities operations to ensure a safe, efficient, and high-quality physical environment. The role provides direct supervision of custodial staff and coordinates complex, high-visibility facilities needs and events in accordance with established policies and procedures. This position is fast-paced, collaborative, and critical to the university’s athletic operations, public image, and event readiness.

Duties to include:

  • Understand all employee work assignments and schedule for adequate coverage.
  • Complete 4 hours of administrative time and 4 hours of cleaning time per day. When necessary, complete additional custodial work assignments.
  • Interview, select, train and evaluate staff. Provide coaching and direction. Take actions related to promotions and discipline as appropriate. Assist with the training of new employees and retraining as necessary.
  • Maintain inventories of products, equipment and other supplies as needed to meet operational and customer needs. Responsible for reporting damage and other irregularities requiring attention or repair.
  • Receive and respond to inquiries and complaints. Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
  • Promote a safe work environment and maintain safety standards to assure compliance with federal, state, local and University Regulations.
  • Assists in planning procedures and work methods and revises or recommends revisions to improve efficiency of operations and services.
  • Position has bloodborne pathogen exposure.

 Location: Athletic Facilities

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 3:30am-12:30pm

About Facilities Management:

Facilities Management (FM) is a service unit of approximately 500 employees who work behind the scenes, 24 hours a day, serving the University of Iowa as stewards of our beautiful Iowa City campus. FM staff coordinate campus master planning, manage design & construction, maintain & clean the buildings & grounds, and provide utilities management.

The University is located along the picturesque Iowa River in Iowa City, a city of some 77,000 people (170,000+ in the metro area) regularly ranked as one of the nation’s best places to live. Iowa City is less than four hours from Chicago and within five hours of Minneapolis, St. Louis, and Kansas City, readily accessible via interstate highways and a regional airport 30 minutes away.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and three years supervisory and facilities management experience, and valid driver’s license.

Special Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver’s license is required and ability to meet and maintain University Driving Policy Standards

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write, and follow directions.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead staff, manage shifting priorities, and work effectively with key stakeholders.

  • Experience coordinating services across multiple facilities.

  • Event support or event-driven operations experience.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Basic to intermediate computer skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.

  • Familiarity with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), preferably AiM.

  • Knowledge of custodial equipment and supplies.

  • Experience in customer service and working with the public.

  • Experience working in an institutional or corporate setting.

  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
