Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • 1 to 3 years accounting and/or financial experience.
  • General knowledge of accounting practices.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience managing multiple deadlines and strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel and various databases.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and teamwork skills required. 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with financial contracts.
  • Experience developing and negotiating budgets for grant submissions.
  • Experience with or knowledge of clinical trials/human subject research.
  • Experience with pre- and post-award grant activities.
  • Familiarity with federal grant policies, procurement, and accounts payable/receivable.
  • Knowledge of an experience with NIH grant processes and requirements.
  • Experience with University insurance and/or billing process.
  • Experience with account reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa business policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Experience working with computer programs and applications specific to grant submissions (e.g. Cayuse, eRA Commons, Proposal Central).
  • Experience with University of Iowa accounting, budgeting and financial systems including Peoplesoft, StrattaJazz, GL Reporter, and Electronic Financial Reports (EFR).
