Residence Education at the University of Iowa has an anticipated opening for a Hall Coordinator.  This position will oversee the day-to-day operations of the residence hall, living learning communities, programs and operations that facilitate the holistic development of 300-1400 residence and their engagement.  This position is required to live-in.  Key areas of responsibility and specific job tasks include:

  • Policy Development and Implementation: Implementing and enforcing departmental policies, procedures and student code of conduct.  Handling student disciplinary violations not resulting in removal from the hall.  Responding to emergency/crisis situations.
  • Student/Community Development: Meeting with individual students; developing needs assessments and program plans for an individual building and living learning communities (LLC); advising building government; assessing needs and planning programs for a single building.  Understanding residence hall philosophy.
  • Customer Service: Responding to students and parents regarding housing and personal issues.  Interacting with facilities staff who work in the building to address problem areas.
  • Leadership: Providing direction, assignments, feedback, coaching, and counseling to assure outcomes are achieved.
  • Financial and Facility Administration: Assuming responsibility for general administrative tasks for an individual building, including summer conferences, room changes, goal setting, reports and staff meetings.  Maintaining appropriate records, including budget.  Analyzing, monitoring, and reporting financial data, information, and reports.  Serving on departmental committees.
  • Human Resources: Recruiting, selecting, developing, and managing the performance of assigned staff and volunteers.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, Higher Education, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Professional work experience (typically a minimum of 1 year) in staff supervision, programming, university administration, fiscal management, and with first year student transition in higher education.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors at a working proficiency level.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software applications (i.e. Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, inclusion, and equity, as well as working with a variety of individuals while appreciating the unique contribution of everyone.
  • Demonstrated working proficiency in the ability to collaborate and interact with individuals and groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust and develop self to prepare for new or changing assignments, processes, people, and/or priorities as organizational needs dictate at a working proficiency level.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of and ability to adhere to established processes and procedures when counseling student sot help their emotional, physical, occupational, and social development.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Working experience (typically 1-3 years) in staff supervision, programming, university administration, fiscal management, and with first year student transition in higher education.
  • One year of full time live-in residence hall experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating, designing, and implementing a curricular learning approach which may include a residential curriculum model, living learning communities, co-curricular learning, etc.
  • Knowledge of intercultural competence assessment methods and activities with the ability to assess programs and review student’s learning outcomes to ensure achievement of objectives and strategies; desire to utilize data and assessment methods in Hall Coordinator role.
