Position Qualifications

Required Qualification

A bachelor's degree in Medical Records or a human health science; or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience in medical records, epidemiology, disease collection, or a cancer registry is required.

Demonstrated ability to function independently, needing minimal guidance.  

Microsoft office product proficiency (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, TEAMS).

Provide a home-based office, including sufficient security and internet network provider to facilitate the transmission of electronic data to the central office or to receive electronic information/data or to participate in virtual staff meetings.

Ability to occasionally travel overnight, valid US driving license and ability to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program driving standard.

 Desirable Qualification

Certification as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS).

Familiarity with tumor nomenclature and classification systems, including ICD-O.

Familiarity with American College of Surgeons cancer program requirements.

Education or experience in human anatomy and physiology. 

Knowledge of electronic medical record and coding systems.

Prior cancer data editing and coding experience. 

Evidence of good written and verbal communication skills.
