UI Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a 100% Hemodialysis Technician to work at the Hemodialysis Outpatient Clinic. 

Duties to include:

  • Assembles and/or prepares, tests, and sterilizes a variety of dialysis equipment. 
  • Dialyzes patients by operating dialysate delivery systems and related equipment and is responsible for proper dialysis treatment. 
  • Monitors treatment by drawing blood and performing analyses for sodium, potassium, and hematocrit, testing conductivity of dialysate concentrate, etc. to insure adequacy of treatment and patient safety. 
  • Prepares individualized dialysate concentrate as necessary when prescribed by physicians. 
  • Performs all designated infection control and quality control monitoring in accordance with unit policy.
  • Maintains supplies in the unit. 
  • Keeps abreast of new developments and techniques to adapt and modify equipment and procedures which requires attending conferences and reading the literature.
  • These positions will help to cover both Johnson County dialysis units

Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: Monday-Saturday, 40 hours per week; 10-hour shifts. Variable start times. Holidays as needed. No call. Must work 2/4 Saturdays in posted schedule. Must close 1 evening per week; 1 of those days must be a Friday close during 4 week pay period.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a certified nursing assistant, dialysis technician or clinical technician involving patient care and monitoring, or
  • Completion of one year or longer health science related training program such as Certified Laboratory Technician, Licensed Practical Nurse, Medical Assistant, X-Ray technician, etc., (excluding Dental Assistants and Technicians), and
  • Must meet Centers for Medicine & Medicaid Services (CMS) requirement to be a Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician per the following schedule:

     

  • Must become CCHT certified within18 months from date of hire.
  • Must successfully complete departmental (Renal Dialysis Treatment Center) orientation/training within 3 months of hire. 

Special Qualification:

  • Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Medical Terminology
  • Previous direct patient care experience, previous IV cannulation or blood drawing experience is desired.
