Much of the research conducted is interdisciplinary and collaborations are fostered and coordinated through major research centers, institutes and programs. Position Summary: This position will organize and manage a histology work that serves the research needs of the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation.


Position Responsibilities:

Prepare all materials and chemicals required for histologic analysis of various paraffin- and plastic-embedded tissues including bone and cartilage.

Embed specimens in paraffin or plastic. Cut, mount, and stain sections.

Perform routine immunohistochemical staining and develop new protocols.

Keep detailed, up-to-date records of the status of each specimen.

Supervise research assistants.

Communicate in a professional manner with PI, peers, and others inside and outside of the organization both in written and verbal format. 

Collaborate in a professional manner with PI, peers, and others inside and outside of the organization.

Education Required

Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Experience Requirements

3-5 years of histology experience.

Management of a high-volume histology lab with supervisory responsibilities.

Processing of osteochondral and soft-tissue specimens.

Use of light microscopy.

Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word) and electronic record keeping.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Desirable Qualifications

Familiarity with human and animal joint anatomy.

Ability to recognize and assess histopathologic features.

Experience with ImageJ or other digital image analysis programs.
