Hospital Security Officer - North Liberty
The University of Iowa Health Care department of Safety and Security is seeking a Hospital Security Officer to perform duties needed to maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the buildings and grounds of the University of Iowa Health Care Campuses.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff entering the hospital
- Assist with wayfinding and information to patients, visitors, and staff
- Perform security checks, patrol facility, and monitor special assignments
- Conduct incident investigations and provide documentation for follow-up
- Respond to and assist in all incidents regarding safety and security
- Respond to lock/unlock doors, troubleshoot elevator problems and extricate as needed, and assist in traffic/parking enforcement
- Respond to and resolve emergencies such as fire, HazMat, and security alarms
- Provide security surveillance of institution, including physiatric units
- Maintain a working knowledge of computers to process data, operate fire alarm systems, and security systems
- Escort to parking ramps and outlying areas
- Perform safekeeping procedures
- Provide effective oral and written communication
- Enforce all institution policies and procedures
- Ability to walk and climb stairs.
- Ability to lift and carry fifty pounds.
- Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.
Key Training/Compliances:
- IAHSS Basic Online Course to be completed within 6 months of start date
- Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) 8 hour - to be completed in first 90 days
- Health Safety Professional (HSP) - to be completed in first 90 days
The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus will open in the Spring of 2025. This 469,000 square foot facility will be home to UI Health Care’s nationally recognized Orthopedics service line, offering comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care across the outpatient, inpatient and surgical venues. These state-of-the-art clinical facilities will also include a full-service community imaging center, laboratory services, physical therapy, retail pharmacy, and emergency department as well as an array of support services. Location: University Campus and North Liberty Campus (training will be completed at University Campus)

Starting Salary: $18.35/ hour plus shift differential and potential over time

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- Two years’ experience in security and safety, or fire safety, or law enforcement; or
- One year of post-high school education related to security and safety and on year of experience in security and safety; or
- Two years of post-high school education related to security and safety
- Possession of appropriate driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
- Ability to obtain basic certification from International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months of hire and maintain certification for duration of employment.
Desirable Requirements
- Two years of customer service experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer software applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc)
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
