The University of Iowa Health Care department of Environmental Services is seeking an HR Associate to provide a wide range of administrative support to assist staff, supervisors, and administrators. Responsibilities include but are not limited to transaction processing, compliance monitoring, record-keeping, onboarding, and managing payroll. The person in this position will perform a wide range of tasks that require a high degree of independence, discretion, judgment, and confidentiality.

  • Maintain and complete personnel and payroll files
  • Monitor and analyze leave usage as required
  • Serve as “controller” for ELMS ensuring schedules are correct and time cards are approved in a timely manner
  • Respond to questions from employees and supervisors that require limited interpretation
  • Provide assistance in monitoring, tracking, and scheduling compliances and employee performance appraisals
  • Act as a backup for E-Verify and processing of I9 forms
  • Participate in HR special projects
  • May assist with planning and organizing events and activities that recognize employee achievements and accomplishments
  • May assist in developing new human resources services or programs
  • Keep filing up to date; scan paperwork for electronic filing
  • Maintain and update personnel records for staff
  • Manage qualification and compliance (CQ) system
  • Educate staff on policies and procedures
  • May assist in gathering data to initiate recruitment, screen applicants, and conduct reference/credential checks
  • Conduct new hire orientation and training
  • Model and actively promote a culture of Service Excellence

Percent of Time: 100%

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 6 months of recent experience performing human resources duties
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must be comfortable speaking in front of groups of people
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer software applications

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of state and federal regulations affecting human resources
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures
  • Ability to be organized, flexible, and multi-task in a high volume and fast-paced environment
  • HR certification (PHR/SHRM)
  • Experience developing training programs and presenting
  • Experience with payroll systems and processes
