The HR Associate at Tippie serves as the welcoming face of our office, embodying the warmth and professionalism that defines our team. This pivotal role involves greeting visitors with a friendly demeanor, ensuring they feel valued and supported from the moment they arrive. The HR Associate is responsible for managing initial inquiries, providing accurate information, and directing individuals to the appropriate resources or personnel. By maintaining a positive and efficient front-facing presence, the HR Associate plays a crucial part in enhancing the overall experience for faculty, staff, and students, fostering an environment of trust and excellence.


This role will play a vital role in delivering comprehensive human resource services and support to the Tippie HR team, faculty, staff, and student employees. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including transaction processing, compliance monitoring, record keeping, data management and reporting, and various HR administrative duties. Additionally, the HR Associate will be the primary point of contact for HR inquiries from faculty and staff, ensuring prompt and accurate responses. Beyond these core functions, the HR Associate will contribute to special projects and undertake other duties as assigned, all while fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.


This role requires an on-campus/in-person work arrangement at the Tippie College of Business and will report to the Tippie HR Business Partner (HRBP).

 


Job Duties and Tasks

  • Initiate, approve, and/or edit HR transactions in workflow (appointments, change in status, special compensation). Explain routine operations/processes to staff.
  • Respond to routine HR questions from employees or supervisors.
  • Review standardized reports; make recommendations and updates as necessary.
  • Initiate and review HR compliance reports and collaborate with departments to resolve issues
  • Assist with promoting, advocating, and communicating changes to policies and procedures.
  • Provide support and assistance with implementation of HR practices, policies and initiatives within multiple departments and units in Tippie College of Business.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to the HRBP regarding HR operations and initiatives.
  • Advise employees and managers on human resource regulations, practices, policies, and procedures; make decisions and resolve issues within established guidelines or direct to the appropriate resource. Escalate the issue to upper management when appropriate.
  • Create training materials, presentations, and deliver presentations to groups of various sizes, as requested.
  • Create routine communications for departments including offer letters.

Salary: $40,475-$54,000

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Qualifications 

  • Typically, 6 months of experience in Human Resources
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations affecting human resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, maintain confidentiality, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines while possessing a strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide excellent customer service for all employee populations.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and Outlook.

Desired Qualifications

  • Human Resources Certification (i.e. PHR, SHRM-CP) and/or commitment to the HR field through training and development.
  • Knowledge of/experience with University of Iowa HR systems, policies, and processes.
  • Prior experience in a higher education setting.
