HR Coordinator - Departments of Neurology & Neurosurgery
The Human Resources Coordinator provides comprehensive HR support for the Neurology Department, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and regulatory standards. This role assists with strategic HR initiatives, recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, and program administration. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and leadership while maintaining confidentiality.
Position Responsibilities:
Coordinate full-cycle recruitment and onboarding processes, including job description development, posting, screening, interviewing, reference checks, offer preparation, and HR onboarding and orientation.
Coordinate and monitor immigration documentation to ensure compliance, including verifying visas and passports and reviewing prior immigration records as necessary.
Coordinate onboarding processes, including HR orientations and processing E-Verify/I-9s.
Track and monitor performance appraisal completion and provide support regarding performance management tools and best practices.
Assist with employee engagement initiatives and administer recognition and reward programs.
Initiate HR transactions to effectuate changes of status, leaves of absence, career development, special compensation, termination, appointment, etc.
Evaluate and facilitate requests for complimentary and ancillary appointments; collect relevant information; ensure compliance with FLSA and University policies.
Provide information and direction to separating employees to ensure end-of-employment items are completed; complete exit interviews.
Oversee Compliance and Qualification (CQ) system, ensuring timely completion of required compliance tasks.
Maintain and update confidential personnel records in compliance with institutional policy.
Assist with employee relations meetings by taking notes and drafting communications.
Gather and distribute HR data to inform workforce planning and departmental goals.
Oversee timecard management and approvals, ensuring schedules are correct and approvals are timely.
Monitor and analyze employee leave usage in accordance with UI Health Care procedures and Attendance Policy.
Support planning and communication of HR changes and initiatives to departmental staff and leadership.
Advise employees and supervisors on HR-related laws, policies, and procedures; resolve routine issues or direct to appropriate resources.
Ensure adherence to patient care standards as defined by state and federal regulations, UIHC policies, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory entities.
Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding employee and departmental data.
Contribute positively to departmental and team goals as part of a trusted HR team.

Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: Monday-Friday, day shift, no weekends or holidays.

Education Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, business administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience Requirements:
Minimum of one year human resources experience within last 3 years.
Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer software applications.
Knowledge of state and federal regulations affecting human resources.
Must possess strong organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail.
Desired Qualifications:High-volume customer service experience.
Prior experience in multiple HR program areas including recruitment, performance management, employee relations, and classification and compensation.
Human resources experience in a healthcare setting.
Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures.
Knowledge of University of Iowa HR systems.
