The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Radiology is seeking an Imaging Technologist with primary duties in Department of Radiography – IR. Perform diagnostic imaging procedures utilizing advanced imaging technology/equipment, explain examination procedures to patients and monitor their status, and instruct students and staff on examination and equipment operations.

 
Duties Include:
  • Perform duties in interventional labs in Radiology and OR settings for routine and critical procedures. 
  • Perform IR procedures using a variety of complex imaging and patient monitoring equipment. 
  • Assist in the use of complex medical equipment during interventional procedures, including, but not limited to angioplasty devices, stents, drains, and filters. 
  • Has knowledge and understanding of key Service Excellence principles for interaction with patients and staff.
  • Establish rapport with patient and provide information about how the exam is performed and what is required of the patient.
  • Performs image processing using a variety of equipment during and after the procedure.
  • Use proper sterile techniques including skin preparation and IV placement; also vital sign monitoring and recording and basic life support knowledge.

Percent of Time: 100%

Schedule:  Monday – Friday with rotating day and evening shifts. Includes rotating on-call duties, weekends and holidays.


Education Required
  • Successful completion of two-year or other approved program by Joint Review Committee in Radiologic Technology Education is required.
Experience Required
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Recent work or clinical education experience in a radiology department is required.

Certification Requirements

  • Current certification or eligibility for certification in diagnostic procedures by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.
  • Permit to practice in the State of Iowa for all radiographers operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment is required. 
Desired Qualifications
  • Certification in Vascular Interventional Technology or experience in Interventional Radiology.
  • Recent work or clinical education experience in IR
  • Recent work or clinical education experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center
