Interventional Radiology Manager - MCU
Position Summary
The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Radiology is seeking a Clinic Manager to provide leadership and operational oversight for Interventional Radiology services. This position is responsible for directing and managing clinical operations to ensure the effective, efficient, and high-quality delivery of patient care, health professions education, and research initiatives. The Clinic Manager leads efforts to organize, evaluate, and continuously improve healthcare operations while fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. This role also serves as the primary administrative liaison between Hospital Administration and the Carver College of Medicine's clinical departments, ensuring coordinated, patient-centered care and operational excellence.
Position Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Develops budget priorities that are responsive to clinic needs and align with institutional strategies and priorities
- Provides financial projections and operational recommendations to meet or exceed budget targets
- Manages financial and productivity data; review and analyze and evaluate performance relative to targets. Investigates gaps in meeting targets and propose adjustments or solutions
- Monitors budgets and evaluate performance relative to targets. Investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Develops hospital budgets; assesses needs for capital equipment and personnel resources. Submits proposals with appropriate justification. Meets budgetary targets
- Ensures maintenance and adherence to regulatory standards set by state, federal, UI Health Care, and University policies and procedures
- Understands and practices “Lean” standards for clinical operations. Identifies opportunities for clinical operations improvement
- Allocates resources to meet quality and productivity expectations.
Patient Care/Service Delivery
- Coordinates patient care and workflow of the Interventional Radiology Techs, Physicians, and Physician Assistants in the Interventional Radiology Clinic
- Identifies needs, trends, and forecasts to provide patient care
- Identifies trends and determine QA priorities
- Recommends QA and patient/customer satisfaction strategies
- Develops and monitors plans to enhance patient satisfaction
- Works in collaboration with hospital and department leaders, including medical directors, to implement best practices and new models of care/service
- In collaboration with hospital and department leadership, ensures that clinical operations are reviewed regularly and in compliance with UI Health Care, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory agencies
- Oversees and ensures compliance of safety regulations
- Works collaboratively with the review of outpatient health care delivery. Identifies systematic problems with clinical operations and recommend solutions
- Reviews patient satisfaction data and develop, implement, and evaluate plan(s) to improve performance
- Investigates patient experience concerns and provide follow-up as delegated to ensure patient satisfaction
- Models and promotes the Service Excellence model for patient care and staff satisfaction
Human Resource Management
- Responsible for the recruitment and training of personnel to maintain an appropriate skill mix and number of staff
- In collaboration with hospital HR representative(s), ensure a consistent approach to HR management
- Provides feedback to the service unit leadership, detect performance problems and provide recommendations regarding corrective action as necessary
- Holds staff members accountable for high performance and high engagement by articulating expectations, monitoring performance, and providing feedback consistently across areas of responsibility
- Prepares and/or assists with developing resource allocations and staffing models
- In collaboration with human resources, finance, hospital administration, and department leadership, uses analytical tools related to workforce utilization and productivity and other operational metrics relevant to workforce management
- Prepares and/or assists with developing workforce models aligned with clinical demand and efficiency
- Works closely and collaboratively with Human Resources, complete performance evaluations, propose salary increases and career development plans
- Schedules and directs work activities of assigned clinic staff
Communication & Collaboration
- Advocates for the needs of the clinic with healthcare leadership
- Collaborates with the clinic medical director regarding program development, process improvements, and equipment budgets
- Facilitates and fosters a collaborative relationship among staff and hospital and department leadership in a positive manner
- Provides administrative interface and actively collaborate with hospital and department administration
- Represents the clinic in meetings or on committees within UI Health Care
- Works to ensure that all employees are respected and treated consistent with University policies.
Education Programs and Research Administration
- Provides clinical education to develop staff competency
- When relevant, oversees clinical education activities and agreements with other educational institutions
- Manages appropriate staff level development initiatives to drive quality care and patient satisfaction
- Collaborates with research staff to ensure clinical and research needs are met

Educational Requirements
- Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience Requirements
- 3-5 years of progressive clinical leadership
- 3-5 years recent experience in a Level 1 trauma center in radiology or procedural based care
- Fiscal management experience: preparing and planning budget
- Proficiency in computer software applications.
- Demonstrated skills in leadership/management
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with a variety of faculty, staff, and students
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Licenses/Certifications
Applicants are required to hold one of two licensure/certification options for the position
Option #1
- Certification or eligibility for certification in diagnostic procedures by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologies, or certification in Sonography by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography and
- Permit to Practice in the State of Iowa for all radiographers operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment
Option #2
Current license to practice nursing in Iowa
Desired Qualifications
- Previous supervisory experience
- Certification in Interventional Radiology
- Demonstrated positive Services Excellence Skills
Knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations
