The Department of Pathology is seeking a Laboratory Technician III to carry out a range of complex laboratory procedures requiring critical judgment and problem-solving skills. Assists allied health professionals at the patient's bedside during bone marrow procurement, ensuring specimens are properly prepared for laboratory analysis. Performs various laboratory tasks, including specimen receiving, processing, sample storage, archiving, data entry of patient information and lab orders, handling telephone inquiries, and resolving related issues. Maintains laboratory equipment and ensures efficient supply distribution. This position is 100% time, Monday-Friday, 0800-1630, with rotating holidays.

 

Duties to include:

  • Performs pre-analytical work as assigned in bone marrow and specimen control areas.
  • Receives bone marrow specimens into the lab and places appropriate orders related to clinical history.
  • Assists with bone marrow collection following standard operating procedures.
  • Performs end of day transfer of tissue samples.
  • Performs post-analytic duties.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Three years of laboratory experience including one year as a Laboratory Technician II or equivalent level experience, or
  • Certification as a Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA) and one year of laboratory experience, or
  • Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals three years, or
  • Two years of technical schooling required for certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required to meet CAP and CLIA regulations).

Special Qualifications (if appropriate):

  • High volume public contact experience

Desirable Qualifications:

  • MLA(ASCP) certified or eligible.
  • Direct patient care experience
